Picked up a package from the US today with the ZED 2i stereo camera. It looks awesome, really. My version has a 2.1mm focal length. I figured that’d work a bit better indoors than 4mm. Some interesting features:
- The SDK doesn’t work in Parallels because it’s only built for x86 and doesn’t work on Windows ARM
- You have to download the SDK from the website, it’s not in the Python repos which is kind of annoying. Even to just run a simple image capture you’ll have to mess around a bit but on the bright side there’s already a prebuilt docker image for l4t and jetpack
- It refused to work with any USB cables except the original one. That’s just plain annoying because you end up debugging the software and only later realize it’s actually the stupid USB cable
- I wouldn’t say I’m super impressed with the image quality but it’s got loads of other benefits. It’s got IMU and fusion and a bunch of other sensors built in and it’s pretty easy to use them
- In the end after about 4 hours I got it running and streamed video and sensor telemetry through nats to the browser
