Figured out how the ina226 works – it’s a current sensor you can read over i2c. It’s all pretty simple but by default the Chinese breakout board comes with an R100 shunt which is way too much for measuring currents over 819.175 mA. Even though the board can handle the power and nothing will break, the data just gets clipped. But it’s super easy to fix – just swap the shunt resistor to R010 (mΩ). After that, yeah, you lose some accuracy but you can measure up to 8.2A. That’s definitely overkill, but honestly 0.8A is way too low too. Ordered R010 2512 (in SMD form factor) from AliExpress because as usual Jaycar has nothing.
